Job Title: Phone Canvasser

Salary Range: $20 - $22/hour

FLSA Status: Part-time, Hourly Temporary, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: up to 25 hours per week, including evenings and weekends

Location: Visalia, CA (in-person required)

Organization Description: Community Water Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to ensure that all communities have access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water through organizing, advocacy, and political engagement. CWCAF is a sister organization to the Community Water Center (CWC). Certain activities listed below are carried out through an agreement authorizing the sharing of staff time between CWC and CWCAF.

Position Description:

The Phone Canvasser is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt, hourly position primarily responsible for engaging with Tulare County voters and sharing information on drinking water issues and mobilizing them to vote. This position will be primarily responsible for contacting voters through phone outreach, to share information, answer questions, and encourage participation in upcoming initiatives. The position will report to the Field Director and Team Leads.

Schedule and Duration:

This is a short-term campaign position running from October 16, 2025 - November 4, 2025.

The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 3pm - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday, 10am - 3pm.

Major Responsibilities

  • Community outreach efforts: make outbound calls to inform community members and to provide educational information and resources
  • Engage community members: to promote awareness and participation
  • Actively participate in training and development; daily script training, and skill building activities. Support peers with troubleshooting scripts, messaging and phone banking challenges.
  • Voter Engagement; engage with voters in a professional respectful and culturally sensitive manner, ensuring clear communication and positive interaction
  • Daily Assignments and Goals: Review daily assignments at the start of each shift and work to meet or exceed assigned target goals
  • Reporting and Data Entry: Complete detailed daily reports, timesheets, maintain contact spreadsheets, and accurately input collected data into tracking systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bilingual- fluency in English and Spanish required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Experience using laptops, tablets and keyboard for basic typing and navigation
  • Ability to enter information accurately into spreadsheets and online forms
  • Ability to use phone banking software, voter databases and mobile applications
  • Attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet phone banking goals
  • Ability to travel to/from Visalia, CA office
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to sit for long periods at a time
  • Ability in making a high volume of calls for long periods at a time
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of groundwater issues, environmental justice, or grassroots power building a plus
  • Fluency in languages spoken within the target communities such as Tagalog, Punjabi, Hmong, Portuguese, Mixteco, Triqui, and Zapoteco are highly desirable.
  • Passion for social and environmental justice, community empowerment, and equitable decision-making processes.
  • California driver's license, valid insurance, safe driving record, and regular access to a 4-5 seat passenger car.
  • 18 years of age or older
