Job summary

  • The physiatrist works with patients of all ages who have conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles.
  • They lead an interdisciplinary team to diagnose, manage, and treat physical impairments and disabilities.
  • The primary goal is to help patients maximize their functional ability and independence.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine the causes of physical impairments and develop individualized rehabilitation plans.
  • Create and manage treatment plans that may include medication, therapeutic exercise, injections, and assistive devices.
  • Lead and coordinate care with a team of healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
  • Perform specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, which can include:
    • Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies
    • Ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopy-guided injections
    • Spasticity treatments (Botulinum toxin injections)
  • Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment plans, and self-management strategies.
  • Track patient progress, modifying treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Position Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR).
  • Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in New York State.
  • Fellowship training in neurorehabilitation, pain medicine, or sports medicine preferred.
  • Previous experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting preferred.
