JOB SUMMARY
The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, and implementing individualized physical therapy interventions based on evidence-based practices and in accordance with the prescription of a licensed healthcare provider. This role involves administering therapeutic treatments and physical modalities to restore function, reduce pain, enhance mobility, and prevent disability caused by injury or illness. Key responsibilities include helping patients achieve their optimal performance levels and functional independence within their capabilities. The Physical Therapist coordinates, delegates, and supervises tasks assigned to support staff, ensuring adherence to clinical and professional standards.
This position contributes to departmental operations, including performance improvement initiatives, budget management, and compliance with established financial guidelines. The Physical Therapist ensures accurate and timely documentation of treatment plan modifications and collaborates in maintaining infection control standards, equipment training, and organizational safety protocols. By fostering a patient-centered approach, the Physical Therapist plays a vital role in advancing the department’s mission of delivering high-quality care.
Job Specific:
1.Responsible for the clinical direction of Physical Therapist Assistants and/or Physical Therapy Technicians.
2.Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect and recommends change as needed. (EF)
3.Ability to perform an appropriate evaluation on all patients as related to the referral and diagnosis. (EF)
4.Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs, home needs, and evaluates/records effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate. (EF)
5.Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities.
6.Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients. (EF)
7.Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
8.Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the information of the plan of care. (EF)
9.Communicates appropriately and clearly, to licensed practitioner, staff and administration team.
10.Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and organizational policy is followed.
11.Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department. (EF)
12.Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and other departments. (EF)
13.Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
14.Documentation meets current standards and policies. (EF)
15.Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in evaluation/guidance and educational programs.
16.Obtain two (2) hours of initial Stroke education and then one (1) hour of annual education specifically related to Rehabilitation in the following years.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: Graduate of a Physical Therapy Program approved by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred: Prefer over one year of combined exposure to acute care, orthopedic, neurological, and out-patient care.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Required: Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Preferred: One or more of the following certifications: Manual therapy, Neuro, Neonatal, Pediatrics, Sports, Geriatric.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. A temporary license allowed if the licensure exam is scheduled within 90 days of the issued temporary license. Failure to pass the licensure exam may result in position transfer, suspension, or termination of employment. A BCLS certification is required.
