Physical Therapist I - Ortho Sports Medicine

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist I provides physical therapy services to pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine patients, with a focus on the adolescent athlete. Responsible for providing physical therapy to a wide spectrum of pediatric disabilities. Must be knowledgeable in therapeutic exercise, normal and abnormal development and orthotics/equipment.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in therapeutic exercise and therapeutic modalities.
  • Strong interest in—or prior experience working with—young or adolescent athletes.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, motivation, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Willing to actively participate in developing and advancing programs supporting injury prevention, sports rehabilitation, and performance enhancement for adolescent athletes.
Qualifications


Minimum Work Experience

1 year will accept new graduates (Preferred)

Required Licenses and Certifications
Must have Maryland PT licensure -or- be a pending applicant for licensure with the Maryland Board with signed supervised practice form. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Evaluation

  • Obtain necessary history including previous medical conditions, pertinent family/social information and review of present complaints.
  • Acknowledge evaluation indications and contraindications and utilize correct evaluation methods
  • Select appropriate areas to assess: interpret assessment data accurately; re-assess at appropriate intervals
  • Apply evaluation principles to variety of pediatric disabilities.
  • Adapt methods when necessary based on patient’s condition and environment.

Treatment Planning

  • Apply knowledge of disease/disability in order to develop an appropriate intervention.
  • Identify team’s role and collaborate with others to develop treatment priorities.
  • Plan treatment based on accurate analysis.
  • Establish appropriate long and short term goals.
  • Appropriately plan for and assist team in discharge planning.

Clinical Skills

  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
  • Adhere to treatment precautions and contraindications.
  • Create and maximize treatment environment to aid patient’s progress and promote optimal independence.
  • Demonstrate effective problem solving skills.
  • Respond appropriately to patient’s responses to treatment.
  • Modify and adapt activities and uses variety of strategies to achieve goals
  • Instruct family and staff on activities to support patient’s treatment program
  • Identifies medical risks, complications and direct family to proper medical management.

Documentation

  • Comply with departmental policies and regulatory standards for inpatient and outpatient documentation.
  • Accurately documents all aspects of patient care.

Administrative

  • Complete BEARTIME requests, patient billing and scheduling accurately and on time.
  • Maintain all job requirements and competencies on time.
  • Complete all assignments and provides appropriate departmental /operational input as requested.

Safety

  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
  • Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
  • Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance

  • Actively participates in case conferences, patients rounds, in-services and staff meetings.
  • Share information with others within framework of cooperation and teamwork.
  • Participate and enhance physical therapy role in multidisciplinary specialty clinics and programs; enhance professional growth and development and act in accordance with ethical principles stated by APTA and other regulatory boards.
  • Assume clinical instructor role for student program.
