The Physician Advisor champions case management and utilization management activities, and acts as an extension of the VPMA medical staff office to drive care variation initiatives. The Physician Advisor completes secondary and extended stay utilization reviews, peer-to-peer appeals with health plans, stewards’ interdisciplinary rounds, and acts as a coach and liaison to the medical staff. This position serves as a resource to physicians, creates a strong culture of engagement, and provides education and guidance to medical staff.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Acts as consultant and resource to attending physicians regarding their decisions, regarding appropriateness of hospitalization, continued stay, and use of resources.
Conducts clinical reviews, to ensure patient care meets quality and regulatory standards.
Conducts interdisciplinary care rounds, to keep up to date on important and evolving areas of medicine and patient care standards.
Creates a strong culture of engagement for medical staff.
Meets with case management and healthcare team members to discuss selected cases and make recommendations for care.
Provides education to physicians and other clinicians related to regulatory requirements, appropriate utilization, alternative levels of care, community resources, and end of life care.
QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate M.D or D.O - Required
Master's Degree MBA or MHA - Preferred
3 years Medical/Surgical - Required
Healthcare Quality and Management Certification (HCQM) - American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. - Preferred
