Physician Assistant- Primary Care

Summary

VA Salt Lake City Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) Primary Care Provider. This position may be filled with a physician assistant - a nurse practitioner - or a physician.

Duties

• The PA will be fully qualified and certified to function in a clinical role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the VASLCHCS
• This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in their area of expertise to assume major clinical - consultative - educational - research - and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of veterans seeking Primary Care at VASLCHCS
• The Physician Assistant practices general medicine with a focus on community-based outpatient clinical care
• The Physician Assistant independently follows his/her own panel of general medicine patients - functioning as their primary care provider
• The primary care Physician Assistant provides total care of the patient's medical needs by performing history and physical exams - ordering appropriate lab tests - evaluating those tests - to ensure quality care of the patient
• This will include providing preventative medicine services - managing chronic disease problems - and providing outpatient follow-up as needed

• The PA practices general internal medicine with a focus on outpatient clinical care
• Approximately 90% of the PA's time is dedicated to developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to the direct care of general medicine clinic patients

• The PA independently follows their own panel of general internal medicine patients - functioning as their primary care provider
• This primary care/gatekeeper role is incumbent with a high degree of responsibility and independence

• The PA's assessment skills and breadth of knowledge must be excellent
• In addition - they must be a highly effective communicator in order to negotiate with consultants at the VAMC regarding the triaging of patients the refer

• The PA must work closely with their colleagues and must serve as a leader in developing processes to improve care and satisfaction
• Research If assigned research duties - the PA enrolls patients in active Ambulatory Care research protocols and completes follow-up visits with required studies
