The Physician provides medical care and treatment to patients. Provides consultation and medical supervision to the clinical staff. Performs routine examinations, diagnoses and provides treatment for illnesses and injuries to promote the patients' overall well-being, and provides immunizations according to medical or school guidelines.

GENERAL DUTIES

Patient Care

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with sleep-related disorders including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, parasomnias, and circadian rhythm disturbances.
  • Conduct comprehensive sleep evaluations, interpret diagnostic sleep studies (polysomnography, home sleep tests, actigraphy), and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate closely with referring providers, respiratory therapy, nursing, and durable medical equipment (DME) partners to optimize outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compassionate, patient-centered communication, education, and follow-up.

Patient Access and Clinic Operations

  • Participate in an equitable physician call schedule as applicable.
  • Maintain consistent availability for new patient consults and follow-up visits per clinic scheduling templates.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve patient access, satisfaction, and efficiency within the Sleep Medicine program.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Adhere to all infection prevention, environmental, and safety standards in accordance with LCMC Health policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and clinical outcome tracking aligned with accreditation and regulatory standards (e.g., AASM, Joint Commission).
  • Maintain a safe and clean clinical environment, reporting any concerns promptly to leadership.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • If designated as Medical Director, provide clinical oversight for sleep lab operations, ensuring compliance with AASM accreditation standards.
  • Partner with administrative and nursing leadership to support staff education, protocol development, and performance improvement.
  • Communicate regularly with departmental leadership to align on goals and initiatives that advance sleep health within the community.


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed residency training.
  • Prior experience in clinical sleep medicine, including reading sleep studies and managing PAP therapy, preferred.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral Degree in Medicine or Osteopathy.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, or Otolaryngology.
  • Completion of a Sleep Medicine Fellowship (ACGME-accredited) required.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Medical Physician Licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners

Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) from American Heart Association

  • May be required to have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from American Heart Association in accordance with privileges granted per specialty

  • Current and unrestricted Controlled Dangerous Substance certificate
  • Current and unrestricted DEA registration - LA
  • Active Privileges through Medical Staff Office


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in interpreting sleep studies and applying diagnostic criteria per ICSD-3.
  • Familiarity with PAP titration, adherence monitoring, and alternative therapies.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, staff, and referring providers.
  • Strong EMR documentation and basic computer software skills (Epic experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
