Role Purpose:
To provide a physiotherapy service to patients who may have physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing to improve their physical function and to provide them with treatment programmes using manual therapy (such as massage), therapeutic exercise and electrotherapy. To ensure the delivery of international standards of care in accordance with established national and international practices, policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities of the role:
Responsible for a caseload of patients ensuring the delivery of international standards of care in physiotherapy services. This includes the assessment, re-evaluation, treatment and intervention services for in-patients, outpatients and Home Service. To use recognized outcome measures to evaluate the effect of the physiotherapy interventions and ensure the treatment programs are progressing appropriately. Develop, implement, and modify individualised treatment plans based on patient assessment and diagnosis. Assess the effectiveness of treatment plans and adjust accordingly.
Educate patients on exercise techniques, ergonomics, posture, and injury prevention strategies. Encourage active participation of patients in their rehabilitation process and self-management. To carry a designated clinical caseload including complex patients and prioritises that work efficiently taking into account clinical and service priorities and using specialist knowledge to underpin decisions. Provide individual patient equipment as required, walking aids, splints and supports. To issue such equipment with due regard to safety of the equipment, and in line with legal, international and local guidelines taking into account the approval process for medical insurance. Advise, guide and teach junior staff in the assessment and management of patients and other aspects of clinical practice. To be an active member of the on-call, weekend duty rotas, and cover of statutory and public holidays including working as lone physiotherapy practitioner at night. Undertake other clinical duties as requested by the Senior Physiotherapist Update other healthcare providers on changes in the patient’s condition. In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, ensure that there is an embedded philosophy and practice of continuous improvement. Communicate with the patient team regarding equipment recommendations and home environment as part of admission and discharge planning. Work collaboratively with physicians, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop integrated treatment plans. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans. Refer patients to other specialists when necessary to ensure comprehensive care. Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards that guide practice improvement initiatives. Uses unit resources in a cost effective and responsible manner Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities Actively participates in the process for ensuring the organization achieves and maintains CBAHI status or other rehabilitation accreditations
