Pipe Fitter Responsibilities (Interior Fit-Out)
1. Planning, Measurement, and Fabrication
- Drawing Interpretation: Reading and interpreting plumbing riser diagrams, mechanical schematics, and MEP coordination drawings to determine pipe routing, material, size, and connection points within the project's layout.

- Material Preparation: Measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and joining various types of piping materials common in fit-outs, such as:
- PPR (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) and PEX for domestic water.
- Copper for refrigerant lines or high-end visible plumbing.
- Galvanized or Carbon Steel for chilled water or fire fighting systems.
- Component Fabrication: Fabricating and assembling hangers, supports, clamps, and anchors required to secure pipe systems safely and neatly within ceiling plenums and wall cavities.
2. Specialized System Installation
- Chilled Water Piping (HVAC): Installing, joining, and connecting chilled water supply and return lines to HVAC equipment like Fan Coil Units (FCUs) and Air Handling Units (AHUs).
- Insulation: Applying and sealing the specified thermal insulation around chilled and hot water pipes to prevent energy loss and condensation (sweating), which is critical for false ceiling integrity.
- Fire Fighting (FF) Systems: Installing and modifying the piping network for fire sprinkler systems, including risers, branch lines, alarm valves, and ensuring all pipe fittings and welding meet strict fire code standards.
- Domestic Water Systems: Installing supply piping for washrooms, kitchens, and pantries, ensuring correct pressure and flow delivery to new fixtures.
- Equipment Hookups: Installing and connecting pipes to complex equipment such as water heaters, calorifiers, booster pumps, heat exchangers, and expansion tanks.
3. Testing, Quality Control, and Coordination
- Pressure Testing: Conducting rigorous hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests on all newly installed pipes (chilled water, domestic water, fire fighting lines) to certify they are leak-free before being enclosed.
- Coordination with Finishes: Working meticulously with civil and ceiling teams to ensure pipes are routed correctly and any visible penetrations are sleeved and finished neatly.
- Clash Resolution: Actively collaborating with other trades (Electricians, Ductmen) to resolve pipe routing clashes in tight ceiling spaces, often using coordination drawings.
- System Flushing: Performing pre-commissioning flushing of the new pipework to remove debris, rust, and flux residue prior to system handover.
- Documentation: Assisting the Site Engineer by marking up installation drawings to create accurate As-Built drawings that reflect the final concealed pipe layout.
