Pipe Welder Specialist

Job Purpose / Summary

Perform specialized fitting, welding, and fabrication work on piping systems, pressure vessels, structural components, and related equipment, ensuring strict compliance with safety, quality, and engineering specifications.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Layout, fit-up, and weld piping, pipe supports, and structural steel in accordance with blueprints, isometric drawings, and welding procedures

  • Weld various metals and alloys: carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, chrome, etc.

  • Work on tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, piping joints, flanges, elbows, and other fittings

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and piping isometrics

  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) and quality inspections (e.g., visual inspection, dye penetrant, ultrasonics, etc.)

  • Ensure welds meet code requirements and project specifications; assist with weld repair/rework

  • Assist in the fabrication of components and assemblies in shop or field settings

  • Perform material preparation: cutting, grinding, beveling, cleaning, and edge preparation

  • Assist with fit-up and alignment tasks, controlling tolerances and clearances

  • Work with lifting, rigging, hoisting, and alignment equipment for positioning of components

  • Conduct job safety analysis, enforce environmental, health & safety (EHS) policies and procedures

  • Maintain welding equipment, consumables, tools, and ensure proper storage

  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades (pipefitters, inspectors) to resolve technical issues

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in welding and fitting trade preferred (as seen in a similar welder posting) Indeed

  • Certified welder or ability to qualify under company welding procedures

  • Proficient in multiple welding processes: SMAW (stick), GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW, or other as required

  • Experience working with various alloys/materials

  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills, including isometric piping drawings

  • Knowledge of metallurgy, welding metallurgy, geometry, and physical properties of metals

  • Experience performing or assisting in NDT/quality inspections

  • Ability to work in shop and field environments, sometimes in confined spaces or elevated areas

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and skill in fitting and alignment

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team

  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work in strenuous conditions

  • Must follow all safety, EHS, and site-specific rules

  • May require valid driver’s license, drug testing, background check

Working Conditions

  • Work in industrial / project sites, possibly outdoors or in harsh environments (heat, humidity, confined spaces)

  • May involve travel between project sites or to remote locations

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, respirators, gloves, safety footwear, etc.

  • Possible overtime, shift work, weekend work depending on project schedule

  • Exposure to welding fumes, noise, welding arcs, high temperatures, and hazards typical of fabrication and welding work
