Overview:
responsible for field erecting, fitting, tacking, grinding, and inspecting new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures and making repairs to existing steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures. This position is a Skilled Craft role. The role directly reports to the Superintendent and routinely interacts with Tank crews and Supervisors
Responsibilities:
  • Performs variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as: Air power ; Cutting torch operator; Drill operator; Pipelayers; Water pump operator; and all pipe cleaning and wrapping. Work usually requires the ability to work without close supervision.
  • May perform a variety of functions, such as: Assisting skilled craft workers in performing their duties
  • Positions, joins, aligns, and fits steel plate and structural sections
  • Grinds, polishes, cleans surfaces such as steel plate, using abrasive tools or machines
  • Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, etc. through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces, Assisting with scaffold erection.
  • Able to follow specific directions
  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change
  • Rate information using standards which can be measured or checked
  • Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects
  • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read a standard measuring tape
  • Access elevated work platforms and scaffolds through the use of ladders, stairways, or other designated access ways.
  • Climb structures utilizing appropriate fall protection and available handholds and footholds.
  • Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects.
  • Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Comply with all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general labor on construction sites.
  • Work in confined spaces where respirators and fresh air equipment are utilized.
  • Maintain and use personal protective equipment.
  • Practice good housekeeping to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Perform a variety of duties, which may often change.
  • Able to understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Capable of learning to read and understand basic drawings.
  • Able to visually inspect personal work activities.
  • Able to pass required safety exams

Skills and Behaviors:

Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.

Sedentary Work:

Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools.

Light Work:

Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Medium Work:

Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds (overhead level).

Heavy Work:

Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Very Heavy Work:

Lifting objects more than 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more (to shoulder height).

Tape measure, straight edge, level, chalk line, sledgehammer, burning torch, welding equipment, chipping hammer, fitting gear, come-a-longs, jacks, chain falls, material handling equipment, inspection equipment, hoists, hammers, pry bar, fit-up bar, wrenches, key plates, bull pins, wire rope slings, shackles, hand wire brush and cribbing blocks. Powered hand tools including grinders, chipping and peening guns, wire brushes, saws, ladder, scaffold and impact wrenches

Personal Protective Equipment

Hardhat, safety goggles/glasses with side shields Z87 stamped, full body harness with double lanyard, hearing protection, respiratory protection, gloves, respirator, fresh air equipment, and safety toe shoes required ANSI 41.1 with steel toe and defined heel
