We’re hiring an
Estimator with strong process piping experience
to develop accurate, competitive estimates for industrial and process-driven projects. This role partners closely with operations, project management, and vendors to price work from early conceptual budgeting through hard bids, helping win profitable projects and set teams up for successful execution.
Responsibilities
-
Prepare
detailed cost estimates
for
process piping
scopes (fabrication, installation, supports, valves, fittings, specialty items, testing, insulation, paint, etc.).
-
Perform
quantity takeoffs
from drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, specs, and bid documents.
-
Analyze RFQs/RFPs, identify scope gaps, and build
bid clarifications, inclusions/exclusions
, and assumptions.
-
Solicit and evaluate
subcontractor and vendor quotes
(pipe, valves, fittings, prefab spools, equipment tie-ins, NDE, hydrotesting, scaffolding, etc.).
-
Develop pricing for
labor, equipment, materials, consumables, rentals, and indirects
(permits, mobilization, supervision, safety, QA/QC).
-
Use historical data and benchmarking to validate pricing; maintain and improve estimating databases and assemblies.
-
Support
value engineering
and alternative methods (prefab vs. stick-built, sequencing, access constraints).
-
Collaborate with project teams on
means/methods
, schedules, constructability, and risk items.
-
Participate in
bid reviews
, handoffs, and turnover meetings to ensure alignment from estimate to execution.
-
Track bid outcomes, refine future estimates, and capture lessons learned.
Required Qualifications
-
3+ years
estimating experience with a focus on
process piping
(industrial construction, mechanical/pipe contractors, EPC, or plant environments).
-
Ability to interpret
P&IDs, isometrics, spool drawings, piping specs
, and general arrangement drawings.
-
Strong understanding of
pipe materials and systems
(carbon steel, stainless, alloy, PVC/CPVC, HDPE as applicable), and typical joining methods (welded, flanged, grooved, threaded).
-
Knowledge of
field labor productivity
, pipefitting/welding workflows, QA/QC, and testing requirements (NDE, hydro, pneumatic).
-
Strong Excel skills and experience with estimating software (e.g.,
Accubid, Trimble/AutoBid, Bluebeam, Planswift, QuoteSoft
, or similar).
-
Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience estimating in
refineries, chemical, food & beverage, pharma, utilities, power generation, or manufacturing
environments.
-
Familiarity with codes/standards relevant to process piping (e.g.,
ASME B31.3
; code knowledge can be practical vs. formal).
-
Experience estimating
maintenance/turnaround
work, shutdowns, or time-and-materials with NTE structures.
-
Ability to support conceptual budgets and early design estimates (Class 5–1 style estimating).
-
Proficiency with takeoff tools such as
Bluebeam Revu
and digital plan workflows.
