Principal Duties and Accountability



The main responsibilities of the position are to:
  • Employer Outreach & Partnerships
    • Identify, connect, and engage with companies across industries to secure internships, live projects, and full-time placement opportunities for students.
    • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing corporate partners and alumni employers.
  • Alumni Engagement
    • Work on maintaining, updating, and leveraging alumni data to create networking and career opportunities.
    • Involve alumni in mentoring programs, guest speaker sessions.
  • Student Employability Initiatives
    • Arrange and coordinate guest speaker sessions, industry panels, and career development workshops.
    • Support in planning and executing large events such as the annual Career Fair.
  • Placement & Internship Coordination
    • Manage end-to-end process of student placements and internships, including outreach, application follow-up, and closing positions with employers.
    • Track and report placement outcomes and engagement activities.
  • Student Guidance and Support:
    • Provide individual career counselling and guidance to students, helping them identify career goals and develop action plans.
    • Advise and guide students on a range of topics and processes relating to job applications, resume writing, and interview preparation.
    • Offer support and resources for students seeking internships, part-time jobs, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Administration & Coordination
    • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support for the Careers & Employability team.
    • Liaise with students, faculty, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of activities.
    • Maintain accurate records, databases, and documentation of all career services activities.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Collect and analyse data on student engagement, employment outcomes, and employer feedback.
    • Use data-driven insights to improve career services and inform strategic decisions continuously.
    • Prepare and present reports on the impact and effectiveness of career programmes.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Promote a safe and inclusive environment in the workplace.
    • Collaborate with academic and professional services staff to support student success.
    • Participate in relevant professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.


Requirements


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience


Essential
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with senior industry professionals.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and in CRM/career platforms.
  • Event management or coordination experience will be an advantage.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., career counselling, education, human resources)
Desirable
  • Proven experience in career guidance and placements in an education setting.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software.
Disposition
  • The post holder will need to be calm and effective in dealing with staff, students and alumni of the University and efficient and diplomatic in dealings with external parties.
  • The post holder be committed to student employability and success and will need to convey confidence and positivity to members of the public, staff and students.
  • The individual will demonstrate an outcome-focused and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • The position requires flexibility with work schedules that will enable the CES department to continue to meet the business needs of the University while allowing the opportunity to balance work responsibilities and personal concerns.
