Job Summary
The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating production schedules for joinery works (doors, cabinets, furniture, fit-out elements). The role ensures efficient utilization of resources, timely delivery of projects, and coordination between design, procurement, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Prepare detailed production schedules based on project timelines and priorities.
- Break down project requirements into manufacturing activities (cutting, assembly, finishing, polishing).
- Allocate work orders to different production sections (carpentry, veneering, painting, CNC).
- Monitor daily/weekly production targets and adjust schedules as needed.
2. Material Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials (wood, MDF, veneers, hardware).
- Track material consumption and forecast future requirements.
- Ensure no production delays due to material shortages.
3. Project Coordination
- Liaise with:
- Design team (for shop drawings and approvals)
- Procurement team
- Site/project engineers
- Align production schedules with project installation timelines.
4. Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Track actual progress vs planned progress.
- Prepare reports such as:
- Daily production reports
- Weekly progress reports
- Delay analysis reports
- Identify bottlenecks and propose corrective actions.
5. Resource Planning
- Plan manpower allocation (carpenters, machine operators, polishers).
- Optimize machine utilization (CNC machines, edge banders, saws).
- Ensure efficient workflow across departments.
6. Cost & Time Control
- Monitor production efficiency and minimize waste.
- Support cost control initiatives by optimizing materials and labor usage.
- Assist in preparing baseline schedules and tracking deviations.
7. Documentation & Systems
- Maintain planning records, logs, and schedules.
- Use planning tools/software such as:
- Primavera P6 (MUST)
- Microsoft Project
- Excel dashboards
- Maintain work order tracking systems.
8. Quality & Compliance Support
- Ensure production follows approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with QA/QC team for inspections.
- Ensure compliance with safety and factory standards.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Engineering / Civil Engineering / Wood Technology
- Certification in planning tools (Primavera / MS Project) is an advantage.
Experience
- 3–7 years in:
- Joinery factory (MUST)
- Fit-out company
- Furniture manufacturing
- Experience in UAE/GCC projects preferred.
