Job Purpose
To develop, monitor, and control project schedules to ensure timely project delivery. The Planning Engineer is responsible for preparing detailed project schedules, tracking progress against baseline plans, identifying delays, and supporting project teams in implementing recovery strategies. The role also supports reporting, resource planning, and coordination between project stakeholders to maintain alignment between planning and site execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Scheduling & Planning
- Prepare detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- Develop baseline schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and define project work packages.
- Prepare recovery schedules and revised programs when project delays occur.
- Ensure project schedules align with contract timelines and project milestones.
2. Progress Monitoring & Control
- Monitor daily and weekly site progress against the approved baseline schedule.
- Track planned versus actual progress and identify delays or potential risks.
- Analyze project performance and propose corrective actions or recovery plans.
- Coordinate with site teams to update progress and ensure accurate schedule tracking.
3. Project Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, and subcontractors regarding project progress.
- Liaise with procurement and logistics teams to ensure materials are delivered according to the schedule.
- Ensure manpower deployment aligns with project activities and milestones.
- Facilitate coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
4. Reporting & Progress Updates
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to management and clients.
- Develop progress dashboards, charts, and schedule updates to track project performance.
- Present schedule status, delays, and mitigation plans during project review meetings.
- Maintain clear documentation of project milestones and progress updates.
5. Documentation & Claims Support
- Maintain project planning documentation including schedules, updates, and progress reports.
- Support the commercial team in preparing Extension of Time (EOT) and variation claims.
- Provide schedule analysis and supporting documents required for contract claims.
- Maintain accurate records for project audits and contractual documentation.
6. Resource & Manpower Planning
- Plan manpower and resource allocation according to project timelines and milestones.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure adequate workforce availability for critical activities.
- Monitor resource utilization and recommend adjustments to improve productivity.
- Support project managers in optimizing resource deployment.
Key Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in construction, joinery, or interior fit-out projects.
- Proven experience in project scheduling and planning using Primavera P6.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling techniques and WBS structures.
- Knowledge of construction project lifecycle and site execution processes.
- Ability to analyze schedules, identify delays, and develop recovery plans.
- Advanced skills in Excel and project reporting tools.
