The Plant Buyer 2 role negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts, and long-term contracts with suppliers, prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services, and supplies for customer-related business processes or for internal use. Conducts complete development life cycle, including interviews of users, development of requirements documents, creation of design specifications, and implementation of requirements. Drives ongoing supplier optimization and continuous improvement.

This on-site position reports to the Materials Manager and is part of the Materials department located in Cortland, New York.

In this role, you will:

  • Material Issue Resolution & Problem Solving: Identifies material shortages, overdesign, and issues, then implements effective countermeasures through structured problem-solving.

  • Kanban & PFEP Compliance: Maintains deployed Kanbans to ensure alignment with manufacturing site needs and Plan for Every Part (PFEP) requirements.

  • Purchase Order Lifecycle Management: Oversees daily creation and maintenance of purchase orders, ensuring accurate tracking, timely delivery, and vendor payments aligned with authorized terms.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborates with Warehouse and Accounts Payable teams to monitor and correct erroneous receipts and invoices, ensuring financial and operational accuracy.

  • Supplier Communication & Data Sharing: Works with the materials team to provide sourcing teams and vendors with accurate usage data, supporting Heijunka principles and supplier alignment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 2 years of relevant buying, supply chain, and logistics experience/or logistics experience with various suppliers and vendors, to ensure timely and proper material delivery.

  • Proficient in utilizing MS Office, Email, and Excel.

  • Experience working with SAP.

  • Ability to remain organized, manage time effectively, and engage appropriately with suppliers and team members.

The annual salary range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
