POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Plant Manager oversees the production of custom or small-batch orders where the focus is on flexibility, customization, and efficiency in a less standardized production setup. This role requires strong leadership, process optimization, and resource management skills to meet production goals while maintaining flexibility and high-quality standards.
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
  • Work Location: In person at our Plainwell, MI Plant


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes the company culture, the mission and vision, and the core values of the company.
  • Promotes safety awareness, accident prevention, and employee involvement with regard to a safe work environment. Ensures employees understand the safety expectations of the organization.
  • Oversee daily operations of the manufacturing process, including scheduling, material flow, and resource allocation for custom orders.
  • Optimize production schedules to minimize downtime, manage capacity constraints, and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Lead, coach, and train a team of production supervisors, machinists, operators, and support staff, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Provide clear direction and set performance expectations for employees while addressing training and development needs.
  • Monitor staffing levels and adjust as needed to accommodate fluctuating production demands.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, recognize achievements, and provide support to supervisors/leads in managing employee relations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve processes, and enhance the overall quality of products.
  • Address customer feedback and resolve any quality issues or concerns.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to streamline production workflows, minimize setup times, and improve changeovers between differentjobs.
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, and customer service teams to understand customer requirements and ensure timely communication of project status.
  • Provide regular reports on production metrics, efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery to senior management.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between departments, including engineering, quality, procurement, and sales teams, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct regular meetings with supervisors and staff to ensure alignment on production goals and address any operational challenges.


QUALIFICATIONS:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the required staff level and technical employees to manage/supervise a total of 100 employees and multiple managers. Is responsible for the overall direct coordination and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable law. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work. In addition, conducting performance appraisals, disciplining employees, and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A BA or BS degree is preferred, or 5+ years related management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and others as required.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw and implement effective solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
