1. Core Responsibilities
- System Design & Configuration:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to design low-voltage control panels for industrial machinery, HVAC systems, or process automation.
- Configure PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi) to interface with low-voltage components like relays, contactors, circuit breakers, and sensors.
- PLC Programming:
- Write, test, and debug PLC ladder logic, structured text, or function block diagrams (FBD) to control panel operations.
- Integrate safety systems (e.g., emergency stops, interlocks) compliant with standards like IEC 61131-3 or NFPA 79.
- HMI/SCADA Integration:
- Develop Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens for operators to monitor and control low-voltage panel systems.
- Link PLCs to SCADA systems for centralized data acquisition and remote management.
- Testing & Commissioning:
- Simulate control logic using software tools (e.g., TIA Portal, RSLogix) before physical implementation.
- Conduct on-site testing to ensure panels meet functional and safety requirements.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve faults in PLC programs or hardware (e.g., I/O module failures, communication errors).
- Update programs to accommodate system upgrades or process changes.
2. Low Voltage Panel-Specific Tasks
- Component Selection:
- Choose appropriate low-voltage devices (e.g., motor starters, timers, overload protectors) for panel assembly.
- Ensure compatibility between PLCs and panel components (e.g., 24V DC control circuits).
- Wiring & Documentation:
- Review electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to verify compliance with design specifications.
- Maintain detailed documentation of programs, panel layouts, and I/O lists.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to standards like IEC 61439 (low-voltage switchgear) and local regulations (e.g., UAE Electricity Rules).
- Implement fail-safe logic to prevent electrical hazards (e.g., short circuits, overloads).
- Energy Efficiency:
- Optimize PLC logic to reduce energy consumption in low-voltage systems (e.g., motor control, lighting automation).
3. Collaboration & Communication
- Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., electricians, project managers) to ensure timely panel delivery.
- Train end-users or maintenance staff on operating PLC-controlled panels.
- Provide technical support during installation and post-commissioning phases.
4. Key Skills & Tools
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in PLC programming languages (Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
- Familiarity with low-voltage components (e.g., MCBs, contactors, VFDs).
- Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Software/Tools:
- PLC IDEs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
- CAD tools for electrical design (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Simulation tools (e.g., PLCSIM, FactoryTalk).
