Jones Building Group is a West Country based building contractor which manages over £20M of new construction, responsive maintenance and planned maintenance contracts on behalf of Providers of Social Housing and Local Authorities.
We require a Plumber to work in and around Hampshire on responsive repairs and planned projects.
Working both alone or as part of a team, together with a high level of skill and confidence to overcome and solve problems as they arise.
Working from our Eastleigh Office, you should be confident in dealing with people and be prepared to go the extra mile to maintain both quality of work and customer satisfaction.

Key details
· Job title: Plumber (Social Housing)
· Location: Mobile – Hampshire and surrounding areas (e.g., Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover, Fareham, Gosport)
· Reporting to: Response Contracts Manager
· Contract: Full-time, permanent.
· Working hours: Typically 44 hours per week, Monday–Friday (overtime as required)
· On-call: Participation in an out-of-hours rota may be required
· Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (plus van/fuel card where provided)
Key responsibilities
· Carry out day-to-day reactive repairs and planned plumbing works in occupied and void social housing properties.
· Diagnose faults efficiently and complete repairs ‘right first time’ wherever possible.
· Install, maintain and repair pipework, sanitaryware and associated fittings (e.g., taps, valves, traps, wastes, WC cisterns, showers, mixers).
· Undertake hot and cold-water system works including isolations, leak investigation and repair, pipework modifications and replacements.
· Carry out minor drainage works, including clearing blockages and replacing small-bore pipework and fittings.
· Identify and report follow-on works, defects, asbestos/structural concerns or safeguarding issues in line with company procedures.
· Make good after works to an acceptable standard (within trade competence) and leave properties safe, tidy and secure.
· Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, explaining works, timescales and any access requirements.
· Use handheld devices/job management systems to receive jobs, record notes, capture photographs and complete paperwork in real time.
· Work collaboratively with other trades, planners and supervisors to meet appointment times and service-level targets.
· Maintain stock levels in vehicle and request materials in line with procurement procedures.
· Comply with all health & safety requirements, including safe isolation, risk assessments and use of PPE.
Compliance & standards
· Work in accordance with current Building Regulations and relevant British Standards, including water regulations/byelaws.
· Follow health & safety legislation and company procedures (e.g., risk assessments, method statements, accident/near-miss reporting).
· Adhere to safeguarding and resident access protocols, including lone working procedures.
· Support compliance with damp, mould and condensation reporting pathways by flagging concerns observed during visits.
· Comply with asbestos awareness guidance and stop work/report immediately if suspected materials are encountered.
· Maintain accurate records for auditing, compliance and customer service purposes.
Skills & experience
Essential
· Proven experience as a Plumber in domestic maintenance/repairs (social housing experience preferred).
· Strong fault-finding skills and a practical, solution-focused approach.
· Excellent customer service and communication skills; able to work in occupied homes with empathy and professionalism.
· Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload and meet appointment times/targets.
· Good literacy and IT skills to complete job notes and compliance records on a mobile device.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Hampshire and surrounding areas.
Desirable
· Experience of working to KPIs/SLAs within a housing repairs contract.
· Basic multi-skilled maintenance ability (e.g., minor patching, tiling, carpentry, silicone/sealing).
· Experience with digital scheduling/repairs systems.
· Unvented hot water (G3) qualification.
· Knowledge of legionella awareness and water hygiene practices.
Qualifications & training
· NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent City & Guilds).
· Valid CSCS card (or willingness to obtain, if required by contract).
· Asbestos Awareness (training can be provided).
· Working at Height, Manual Handling and PPE training (training can be provided).
· DBS check may be required due to working in residents’ homes.
Working conditions
· Mobile role across Hampshire and nearby counties; some travel time between appointments is expected.
· Work in a mix of occupied and void properties, including flats and houses.
· May involve occasional lifting, confined spaces, outdoor work and exposure to dust/noise (PPE provided).
· Out-of-hours emergency callouts may be required as part of a rota.
Equipment & systems
· Company van and fuel card (where applicable), or mileage allowance.
· Company-issued mobile device/handheld for job allocation and reporting.
· Tools, uniform and PPE provided (or tool allowance depending on arrangement).
· Access to technical support, supervision and ongoing training.
