JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to complete daily functions of the diagnostic and/or point of service schedulers which includes but not limited to outpatient laboratory, imaging, interventional and/or electrophysiology procedures. Provides scheduling of patients to include intricate scheduling protocols for department or clinic. The Scheduler should aim to be part of an elite team that supports UT Southwestern operations and initiatives.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
Education
High School Diploma GED equivalent
Experience
2 years experience in medical office environment
Exposure and working knowledge of physician billing, medical collections, coding, surgery scheduling and/or patient access.
Preferred
Education
2 years of college
Experience
1 year healthcare scheduling and/or surgery scheduling to include oncology or chemotherapy treatment depending on point of service
JOB DUTIES
Schedules all patients in accordance with established protocols, collects required patient information, and accurately communicates patient preparation instructions. Communicates directly with patients regarding appointment times.
May complete patient pre-registration, insurance verification and patient out of pocket estimate, explaining patient out of pocket costs and UTSW pre-payment policy to patients at the time of scheduling.
Works closely with Management, Radiologists, Techs and Nurses to ensure efficient and accurate scheduling of all department resources.
Communicates timely information to the Ordering Physician's Office pertaining to outpatient scheduling conflicts, rescheduled appointments, and no shows.
Identifies and reconciles patient appointments with orders to ensure all patients are scheduled appropriately and timely. Notifies nurse/physician of any discrepancy in patient care so that remedy can be implemented.
Manages Schedule Order workqueues according to daily assignment, maintaining service standards for contacting patients to schedule appointments.
Answers all incoming phone calls in a professional manner while responding to high call volume in a timely manner, paying attention to inbound call dashboard, patient hold times and agents available.
Acts as a liaison with other departmental schedulers when needed for the coordination of multiple appointments and/or procedures to ensure patients are efficiently scheduled.
Maintains quality, productivity and time and attendance standards as defined by manager
Participates as needed with any scheduling application upgrades and/or transitions.
May research claims on payment denials from third-party carriers for pre-certified procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
