Police Dispatcher Part Time

Job Title: Part-Time Police Dispatcher
Department: Plainfield Police Department
Location: Plainfield, Connecticut
Schedule: 16-24 hours per week

Position Summary:
The Plainfield Police Department is looking for reliable and motivated individuals to join our team as Part-Time Police Dispatchers. Dispatchers are the first point of contact when someone in the community calls for help and play a critical role in coordinating the response of officers in the field.This fast-paced position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Dispatchers gather information from callers, prioritize calls for service, and provide officers with accurate and timely information to help them respond safely and effectively.No two shifts are the same. Dispatchers must be able to multitask, think quickly, and work as part of a team dedicated to keeping the Plainfield community safe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for police service
• Obtain and document critical information from callers
• Dispatch officers and other emergency personnel as appropriate
• Relay timely and accurate information to officers in the field
• Maintain communication with responding personnel during incidents
• Operate dispatch and communications equipment
• Complete required documentation and reports

Schedule:

• 16–24 hours per week
• Must be available to work weekends and major holidays
• Additional hours may be required as needed

Compensation & Benefits:

• Starting Pay: $24.83/ hr (effective July 1, 2026, upon completion of training ~Training rate $20/hr)
• Accrued Sick Time
• Contractual Raises
• Overtime availability

Requirements:
Candidates must:

• Be 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Successfully pass an extensive backgroundinvestigation and Drug screening
• Demonstrate strong communication and multitasking skills
• Be able to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
