POSITION SUMMARY

The Town of Eliot Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Lieutenant / Deputy Chief of Police. This is a senior command-level position responsible for the direct oversight, coordination, and management of daily police department operations, including sworn and non-sworn personnel, within both union and non-union environments.

The Lieutenant serves as a key member of the Department’s executive leadership team and is responsible for ensuring the effective enforcement of all applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances within the Town of Eliot. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment, leadership discretion, and administrative authority consistent with professional law enforcement standards and municipal policy.

The Lieutenant shall assume command authority in the absence of the Chief of Police and perform all related duties as required to ensure continuity of operations and organizational stability.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general direction of the Chief of Police.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Direct and supervise daily operational functions of the Police Department.

· Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to sworn and civilian personnel.

· Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws.

· Participate in strategic planning, policy development, accreditation efforts, and organizational initiatives.

· Support a leadership approach that promotes professionalism, accountability, transparency, and internal communication.

· Assist in disciplinary processes, performance evaluations, and personnel development.

· Represent the Department as assigned in meetings, hearings, and interdepartmental coordination.

· Perform all other duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of an associate’s degree or sixty credit hours in criminal justice or a related field. Minimum five to seven (5-7) years of progressive, responsible police law enforcement experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Pay: $92,000.00 - $107,000.00 per year
