Description
Hillsboro Police Officers perform uniformed patrol functions as part of a visible and proactive police department. Responsibilities include enforcement of law, investigation and deterrence of criminal activity, traffic control and traffic accident investigation, arresting offenders, public relations events, safety/security education, serve as a resource to local schools, and engaging with community members to provide safety and security. All officers are subject to perform any or all of these assignments as directed by the Chief of Police.

Essential Job Functions
- Identify Criminal Offenders and Criminal Activities While on Patrol - Identify problems that are potential violations of the governing laws and statutes; communicate with other patrolling officers; enforce federal and state law as well as city ordinances; patrol residential and business districts throughout the city; maintain good public relations with citizens and business owners; perform physical and visual checks of buildings as necessary; maintain radio contact with Jefferson County 911 Dispatch.
- Apprehend and Arrest Offenders - Pursue suspects in vehicle or on foot, in accordance with department policy; follow appropriate search procedures on suspects; advise suspect of applicable rights, places subject in custody; transports and processes evidence and property according to department procedure; escort arrestee to police station for interview or booking at the Jefferson County Jail; complete and file all appropriate paperwork.
- Participate in Court Proceedings - Work with prosecutors and attorneys as needed; prepare evidence and testimony; testify in court when called; serve as Court Bailiff as needed.
- Respond to Radio Calls for Service - Respond to radio dispatch and citizen calls; provide assistance, counsel, and information to citizens; assist with crowd control as needed; facilitate the movement of vehicle and pedestrian traffic during events; evaluate continually changing circumstances at the location of the call; determine the need for additional units and requests them as necessary.
- Enforce Motor Vehicle Laws - Initiate traffic stops; write tickets or give warnings as deemed necessary; run license plates and perform drivers’ license checks; take and complete necessary reports, including non-fatality motor vehicle accident reports.
- Perform Other Duties Related to Departmental Activities - Cooperate and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies; serve on special teams or be assigned to a specialized unit, such as a School Resource Officer; provide specialized services within the department, such as firearms trainer/armorer, evidence technician, or fleet maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have the following minimum qualifications:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Missouri POST Certification
- Valid Missouri Driver's License
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

**Applicants must have their POST certification by the date of hire. We do not currently offer academy sponsorships.**
