Under the general supervision of the Victim Coordinator, the Intern will assist with special projects related to compliance with state and federal laws. The Intern will work with multiple departments to learn about City operations and gain an understanding of local government.

Work with different units within the Police Department to learn the process each division needs to complete to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

Meet with City Departments to learn about a variety of City operations; support and assist with special projects

Shadow professionals within the criminal justice system to include, patrol, detectives, victim services, records and outside organizations to gain the understanding of the role of each discipline and their importance within this system in holding offenders accountable, while serving crime victims
- Provide needed assistance to each division through scanning, filing, data entry, regular customer service duties and any other duties as assigned

Attend and participate in educational opportunities and events offered to the community to improve the understanding of the criminal justice system as well as providing support to our partnering organization

Adhere to departmental policies and relevant legal regulations.

Draft reports and presentations.

Job Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong quantitative, analytical and organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize, multi-task and the ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):-
Must be currently enrolled in an educational institution program.

Interest in local government operations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word.

Obtain CJIS Security Clearance and Certification.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Moderate physical work with the ability to lift 25 pounds. Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing documents and written reports; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens.
Work Environment: Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment. Subject to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Routinely communicates with and meets with employees and citizens and must be able to travel back and forth between buildings to carry out necessary functions of this position.
Internship details: 20 hours per week for up to 32 weeks.
