The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within a hospital setting provides essential emergency care and support to patients in critical situations. Responsibilities include assessing patient conditions, administering basic life support, and assisting with advanced medical procedures under the direction of healthcare professionals. EMTs collaborate with hospital staff to ensure efficient patient transport within the facility and to external medical facilities as needed. They maintain readiness of medical equipment, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and document patient information accurately. Strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential for success in this role.
Essential Functions
Performs patient care tasks in a safe and competent manner without deviation from the standard of care or hospital policy and procedure
Coordinates care with the RN and other interdisciplinary care to optimize patient outcomes
Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in patient status and report changes to RN immediately and assist in providing appropriate interventions in a timely manner
Maintains complete and timely documentation that assures accurate reflection of care provided
Maintains communication with RN throughout entire shift to ensure accuracy of information and care provided
Promptly responds to patients request for assistance in professional and effective manner
Completes EKG’s for acute chest pain in a timely fashion
Performs other duties as assigned in an engaged and positive manner
Interacts with physicians, patients, visitors, department staff and other hospital staff members in a professional manner and responds to requests in a timely manner
Handles daily departmental tasks, as needed, without direct prompting and supervision
Performs other functions as assigned which may include assuring a clean environment, basic housekeeping, restocking equipment or supplies, report damaged or unsafe/malfunctioning equipment according to policy
Performs all other duties as assigned in an engaged and cooperative manner
Performs other duties as assigned in a positive and engaged
Education
Technical Program Emergency Medical Technology
License/Registration - Issued by Florida or Compact State
Emergency Medical Technician
Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Work Experience
(3) Three years' experience in a clinical setting
