Pool Medical Lab Technologist

Performs all approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties, as required to meet workload demands. Works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist II or III.

Essential Functions

• Complete proficiency testing samples within the requested timeframe.

• Demonstrate competency in using the LIS and HIS computer systems.

• Ensure adequate supplies are available and promptly notify the supervisor when supplies are low.

• Assess situations from multiple perspectives, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate actions.

• Maintain a high level of accuracy with no more than 6 minor errors per year.

• Perform testing within defined turn-around-time parameters for STAT, timed, and routine testing.

• Assist in solving problems encountered by Technicians and Phlebotomists.

• Complete all work during the shift without sacrificing quality of care and leave minimal work for the next shift.

• Notify the Nursing Supervisor and floors of instrument and LIS downtime.

• Document all quality control, calibrations, maintenance, test and order comments, and reagent information accurately and timely.

Education

• Associate's Degree Medical Technology or

• Bachelors Biology or Chemistry

License

• Clinical Lab Technologist

Certification

• American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Work Experience

• Previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician. New graduates accepted at the discretion of the Director.
