Job Title: Port Captain (DPA Certified)

Position Summary

We are a ship-owning company seeking a qualified Port Captain with DPA Certification to oversee vessel operations and compliance. The successful candidate will act as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and will be responsible for ensuring operational safety, regulatory compliance, and the ongoing maintenance of the company’s Document of Compliance (DOC) under the ISM Code.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vessel Operations

  • Supervise day-to-day fleet operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant vessel performance.
  • Coordinate with Masters and onboard staff to resolve operational issues
  • Monitor voyage progress, port calls, cargo handling, and navigational safety.

2. Designated Person Ashore (DPA) Duties

  • Act as the primary shore-based point of contact between the company and the vessels for all safety and pollution prevention matters.
  • Ensure the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with ISM Code.
  • Respond to and investigate incidents and non-conformities, and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are taken.

3. Document of Compliance (DOC) Maintenance

  • Ensure the company’s Document of Compliance (DOC) remains valid and in full conformity with Flag State and Class requirements.
  • Coordinate with Flag State and Classification Societies for DOC audits, renewals, and updates.
  • Prepare and lead the office during external audits (initial, annual, renewal).
  • Maintain all documentation and evidence required to demonstrate compliance with the ISM Code.

4. Safety, Quality & Audits

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all fleet operations.
  • Conduct or coordinate internal and vessel audits and inspections.
  • Analyze safety trends and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update records related to safety drills, inspections, and safety committee meetings.

5. Crew Support & Training

  • Guide and support onboard crew in SMS implementation and best practices.
  • Identify training needs and participate in crew evaluations.
  • Qualifications & Experience
  • Master Mariner (Unlimited) license preferred.
  • Valid DPA certification as per ISM Code.
  • Proven experience in maintaining DOC and SMS documentation.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of seagoing experience and at least 2–3 years in a shore-based management role (e.g., Port Captain, Marine Superintendent, DPA).
  • Strong knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS Code, MLC, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other maritime regulations.
  • Experience in working with Flag State, Class, and third-party auditors.

Skills Required

  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with safety management software and reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel to vessels and attend audits/inspections as required.

Pay: AED10,000.00 - AED12,000.00 per month
