Job Description: Port Operations Supervisor

Company: Saman Tea Private Limited

Location: Mundra & Kandla Port, Gujarat, India

Job Type: Full-Time, On-Field

About Us:

Saman Tea Private Limited is a leading exporter of high-quality, food-grade products. With a large volume of our exports managed through Mundra Port, we are committed to maintaining a seamless and efficient supply chain. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to be our on-ground representative and manage our critical container logistics at Mundra and Kandla ports.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Port Operations Supervisor to manage all on-field activities related to container sourcing and movement. The ideal candidate will be our primary point of contact at the ports, ensuring that our food-grade products are shipped in clean, compliant, and timely containers. This role requires constant coordination between container yards, shipping lines, CHAs, our factory, and our head office in Kolkata.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Container Identification: Regularly travel between the various container yards (5-6) at Mundra and Kandla ports to physically locate and identify the specific containers required for our export shipments.
  • Inspection and Preparation: Thoroughly inspect empty containers to ensure they meet our strict quality and cleanliness standards for food-grade products.

Coordination:

  • Liaise effectively with shipping lines and our Customs House Agent (CHA) to manage container release and documentation.
  • Arrange for necessary container repairs and thorough cleaning to make them suitable for food-grade cargo.
  • Dispatch and Loading: Coordinate with transporters to have the approved, empty containers loaded onto trucks and dispatched to our factory for product loading.
  • Return Logistics: Manage the return logistics of stuffed (loaded) containers from the factory back to the port, ensuring they meet shipping cut-off times.
  • Gate-In Process: Oversee the successful gate-in of stuffed containers at the port, ensuring all formalities are completed for their handover to the shipping line.
  • Problem Resolution: Act as the first point of contact for any on-ground issues. If a container is rejected upon arrival at the factory due to any defect, you will be responsible for resolving the problem swiftly by arranging a suitable replacement and minimizing delays.
  • Reporting: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Head Office in Kolkata, providing daily updates, reports, and escalating any issues as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: Must have a few years of proven experience in port operations, container yard management, or a similar on-field role within an export house or with a CHA.
  • Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of port and container yard procedures, including container searching and identification methods.
  • Coordination: Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with shipping lines, CHAs, transporters, and yard personnel.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

* Problem-Solving: A proactive and resourceful problem-solver who can think on their feet and handle unexpected challenges efficiently.

* Attitude: Must be a self-motivated individual, comfortable working independently on the field with a high degree of responsibility.

Mandatory Requirement:

The candidate must own a personal bike and hold a valid driver's license for daily commutation between the various port terminals and container yards in the Mundra and Kandla area.
