POSTDOCTORAL POSITION – McDermott Lab
POSITION SUMMARY:
Developmental and RNA biology of protozoan pathogens
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist with interests in molecular mechanisms of RNA processing and their roles in the development of Trypanosomatid pathogens. The project will use a combination of complementary genetic, molecular, cellular, protein structure/function, and informatic methods. Responsibilities include literature review, experimental design and performing experiments, data analysis, and preparation of reports and manuscripts. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in cellular and molecular biology, especially with respect to protozoan pathogens, and expertise in basic cell and molecular biological techniques. The ideal candidate will be independent, motivated and hard-working. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the abilities to establish clear goals, organize and prioritize research, work with a diverse and collaborative team, and thrive within a multi-disciplinary environment are critical.
The PI is committed to trainees’ career development and will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to compete for fellowships, high-profile publications, and academic awards.
Interested applicants should provide a cover letter detailing their scientific achievements, goals, and a description of their interest, in addition to a curriculum vitae that indicates their education, experience, and qualifications. A Ph.D. or equivalent biomedical degree in cell and molecular biology and/or microbiology, experience in molecular analyses and a strong understanding of cellular processes are required.
The research is conducted in the highly interactive Seattle research environment that includes the closely located University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and is carried out in collaboration with other labs both in Seattle and nationwide.

Compensation Range
$77,968.80 - $116,937.60 per yearSalary Information
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
