Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

Job Summary

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join Dr. Suter’s Pulmonary Optical Imaging Laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. A Harvard Medical School appointment will be at the postdoctoral rank. The successful candidate will divide their time between the MGH lab and Harvard University’s Center for Nanoscale Systems (CNS), a world-class nanoscale fabrication facility located on the Harvard University campus. The position will involve the design and fabrication of flat optics using lithographic techniques, and the integration of these optics into endoscopic, fiber-based imaging probes. Motivated candidates will ultimately be able to train others on established fabrication processes, resulting in increased opportunity for mentoring and higher-level research and design. Candidates without previous experience in lithographic processing should be strongly motivated and capable of independent learning.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A doctorate degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.

  • Experience with optics and optical systems.

The ideal candidate possesses experience or skills related to:

  • Nanofabrication and/or lithographic processing

  • Modeling software for optics and optical systems (FDTD, ray tracing, CAD)

  • Optical fiber

  • Scientific paper writing

The candidate should also be:

  • Comfortable handling and manipulating sub-millimeter scale optical elements

  • Self-motivated

  • Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Willing and eager to learn new skills and explore novel ideas

The Suter Lab is a well-funded but smaller lab, and candidates who are both versatile and motivated will find significant opportunity for growth and increased responsibility.

Interested candidates should send their detailed curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing relevant training and research experience, and the names and contact information of three referees to Dr. David Adams, PhD at DADAMS5@mgh.harvard.edu . Please reference the position you are applying for in the subject line.

Mass General Brigham Competency Framework

At Mass General Brigham, our competency framework defines what effective leadership “looks like” by specifying which behaviors are most critical for successful performance at each job level. The framework is comprised of ten competencies (half People-Focused, half Performance-Focused) and are defined by observable and measurable skills and behaviors that contribute to workplace effectiveness and career success. These competencies are used to evaluate performance, make hiring decisions, identify development needs, mobilize employees across our system, and establish a strong talent pipeline.
