Position Highlights
A full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the research laboratory of Dr. Wondisford in the Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.

The primary focus of the research is molecular mechanisms of glucose homeostasis and thyroid hormones in metabolic disease such as diabetes and fatty liver disease. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in biology with a strong publication record. Prior experience in either metabolism, epigenetics, bioinformatics, or CRISPR will be preferred. Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be self-motivated.

The candidate is expected to carry out projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas related to projects, executing experiments proficiently and timely, and analyzing data professionally. The candidate is expected to handle multiple projects, write scientific papers and reviews, and present work at scientific conferences. The candidate is also expected to work with students and technicians and be skilled in assay development, problem solving, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform independent research experiments under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Perform echocardiography, RVSP measurement on research mice and rats.
  • Maintain mouse and rat colonies.
  • Perform tissue/cell culture and molecular biology related experiments.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
  • Participate or author articles in peer-reviewed journals, books or chapter publications.
  • Participate or present at meetings and conferences.
  • May co-author and may co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
  • Assist with laboratory management including:

  • Maintain and service laboratory equipment
  • Laboratory purchases and budgeting
  • Manage biosafety requirements
  • Organize laboratory and implement procedures
  • Coordinate with building/facilities management, gas delivery, and other key research infrastructure

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation. A strong team player.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
  • Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biology Sciences or relevant field of study.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Single cell RNA sequencing; animal procedures; molecular biology skills.
