JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Department of Genetics, Genomics, and Informatics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar. This position involves rodent handling and in vitro cell-based assays. It requires knowledge of rodent colony management and behavior, preparation of primary cell cultures, knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques, and a background in statistical analysis, and familiarity with statistical packages (e.g., JMP, Prism, R, or Python.) The position involves working independently and supervising graduate students and technical staff. It will require the ability to analyze and summarize results and present research findings in the form of weekly lab meetings, scientific conference posters and presentations, and manuscript preparation.
Performs and/or supervises trainee in vitro cell-based assays in primary neuronal and astrocyte cultures. Specific duties include culturing primary cells, transduction using viral vectors, flow cytometry, and sea horse assays. Assists with nucleic acid extractions, protein extractions, and other basic molecular biology as needed. Performs statistical analysis and quality control of data generated from molecular and behavioral assays. Prepares results for publication and presents data at internal and external meetings. Prepares weekly reports for lab meetings. Performs and/or supervises all aspects of rodent studies, including colony maintenance, estrus cycle monitoring, timed matings, embryo collection, blood collection, tissue collections, perfusions, injections, and performing multiple different behavioral phenotyping assays. May also perform stereotaxic injections to deliver viral vectors to select rodent brain regions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Doctoral Degree.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions.
