Wanco Inc. is seeking a Power Generation Engineer in our Arvada, CO production facility.
Summary:
The successful candidate will design and support the production of diesel generator sets up to 500kW. The position requires a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 3+ years of hands-on experience. Excellent problem-solving skills, communication skills, and the ability to function independently will be key to your success.
Essential Functions:

Configure genset controllers for specific genset models. Basic PLC programming may be required.

Identify suppliers and select major system components such as engines, alternators, main circuit breakers, voltage selector switches, etc.

Work directly with domestic and overseas suppliers to develop custom solutions
-
Document designs via 3D CAD (experience with Solid Works preferred) and formal Engineering Change process.

Assist engine manufacturer teams with engine application testing.
-
Troubleshoot production test issues.
Responsibilities:
-
Perform maintenance and repair on power-generation equipment, including generators, turbines, and engines.
-
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
-
Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance of equipment.
-
Collaborate with team members to develop and implement repair plans.
-
Utilize CAD and AutoCAD software to design and modify equipment components.
-
Apply mechanical knowledge to dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment parts.

Use systems engineering principles to analyze and improve equipment performance.
-
Manage projects related to power-generation equipment repair and maintenance.
-
Build and test prototypes of new equipment designs.
-
Utilize GIS (Geographic Information System) software for mapping and analysis purposes.
Qualifications:
-
BSME or BSEE degree, or significant relevant work experience.
-
Knowledge of 3-phase rotating machinery and common 12-lead connection schemes.

Knowledge of internal combustion engines, specifically modern diesel engines and associated emission control systems.

Knowledge of stand-alone and paralleling genset controls.
-
Proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software for equipment design and modification.

Strong knowledge of AutoCAD for creating technical drawings and schematics.
-
Mechanical knowledge to effectively diagnose and repair power-generation equipment.
-
Understanding of systems engineering principles for analyzing and improving equipment performance.
-
Project management skills to effectively plan and execute repair projects.
-
Ability to build, assemble, and test prototypes of new equipment designs.
-
Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information System) software for mapping and analysis purposes.

Proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis and modeling purposes.
-
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles for troubleshooting electrical issues in power-generation equipment.

Experience in system design for developing efficient power-generation systems.
Preferred Additional Skills:

Basic or intermediate understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies including 5S.

Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.

Experience working in an ISO 9001 QMS.

Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings in both inch and metric.
-
Ability to measure component dimensions with caliper and or other measuring devices in both inch and metric.

Ability to perform intermediate math with the ability to understand and express numbers to three (3) decimal places.

Multi-lingual including Spanish
Physical Requirements:
-
Mobility to work in a large factory setting with walking, pushing, lifting, standing, and sitting, while maintaining PPE requirements.

Shift: M-F, 8 – 10 hours daily.

Some travel may be required.
Reporting:
This position reports to the Production Manager.
Salary range:
$90-$130K per year. Depending on the experience and qualifications.
