EWEC drives the planning, forecasting, purchasing, and system despatch services of water and electricity. EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. EWEC is supporting the government of Abu Dhabi and the government of the UAE by enabling the reduction of cost whilst also providing the increased security of supply that comes from a cleaner, larger, and more integrated system.


EWEC is mandated to implement strategic initiatives that will achieve the 60 per cent clean energy target outlined in the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy's (DoE) Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 for Electricity Production in Abu Dhabi, in addition to enabling the achievement of UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, UAE Energy Strategy by 2050, and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. The Power Operability Analyst supports the development and maintenance of the 1–3-year operability envelope for EWEC’s power system. The role refines operability models, runs power system studies for the annual multi-year Operability Assessment, and contributes to restoration and black-start planning. The Analyst assesses system performance under different scenarios, evaluates the impact of new capacity, demand growth and decarbonization initiatives on operability, and provides clear technical inputs and recommendations to the Power Network Operability Lead. The role collaborates with Power and Water System Operations, Outage Management, Integrated Planning and external stakeholders, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and promotes data-driven decision-making in support of system resilience and the energy transition.


Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of power operability strategies to ensure reliable and efficient operation over the 1–3-year horizon.
  • Contribute to the annual multi-year Operability Assessment by preparing and running studies and drafting technical sections of the report.
  • Provide operability input to multi-year outage planning by supplying limits, constraints and windows to Power Network Outage Management, recognising that Outage Management owns the integrated outage schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Power Network Operability Lead to refine operability models and simulations, incorporating advanced analytics and benchmarks tailored to future system integrity and operability.
  • Conduct detailed analyses of system performance under various scenarios, including grid stability, load management, contingency and restoration, identifying potential operability risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of restoration and black-start plans by preparing scenarios and technical inputs for future system configurations.
  • Prepare and present clear reports on operability activities, highlighting key metrics, risks and recommended mitigations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulatory standards in all operability studies and recommendations.
  • Manage the documentation and reporting of operability activities, ensuring records are accurate, comprehensive and accessible for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing system resilience and enabling the integration of renewable and low-carbon generation from an operability perspective.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure operability insights and constraints are integrated into Planning & Studies, Outage Management and broader operational processes.
  • Support continuous monitoring and adjustment of operability assumptions and parameters in response to changing grid conditions, regulations and decarbonisation priorities.
  • Optimise data collection and analysis practices, working with the System Analyst, to improve the efficiency and reliability of operability assessments.
  • Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making within the operability team, leveraging analytics and digital tools to enhance the accuracy and relevance of operability insights.
  • Assist in managing relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, Transco and generation companies, to ensure alignment with EWEC’s operability objectives.
  • Support the integration of sustainability principles into operability activities, aligning with EWEC’s energy transition and environmental goals.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations and operability insights effectively to the Power Network Operability Lead and other stakeholders and execute operability tasks assigned by the Lead in a timely and high-quality manner.


Standard Responsibilities:

  • Implement all relevant section policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
  • Execute the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes supporting the related change management efforts
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) policies and requirements
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet the section requirements, policies and standards
  • Adhere to EWEC values (including sustainability, integrity, collaboration and innovation)
  • Upgrade technical skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis


Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering
  • PSS/E and Plexos modelling training preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in operational planning.
