Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse - Plastic Surgery & Burns

As a Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective and person-centred care to patients preparing for plastic surgery and burns procedures. Working at the heart of a multidisciplinary team, you will use your clinical expertise to assess, plan and coordinate care from initial assessment through to admission. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage the clinical and nursing needs of patients from pre-operative assessment through to admission
  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories, diagnostic assessments and interpret clinical findings to support decision making
  • Refer patients appropriately for further investigations or treatments based on clinical judgement
  • Provide expert advice, education and emotional support to patients, families and carers
  • Deliver evidence-based care and contribute to the development and improvement of clinical practice
  • Work autonomously while providing leadership and guidance within the multidisciplinary team
  • Support and manage staff within remit, contributing to training, development and service delivery

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and post-registration experience
  • Relevant post-registration qualification or equivalent experience in a related clinical specialty
  • Demonstrable experience in patient assessment, clinical decision making and care planning
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic clinical environment
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to continuous learning
  • Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills
  • Experience of teaching, supporting staff development or contributing to audit and service improvement
