Roles of a Preschool Teacher
A preschool teacher plays multiple roles in guiding early childhood development:
1. Caregiver
- Ensures children’s physical and emotional safety.
- Provides comfort, support, and reassurance.
2. Educator
- Teaches foundational skills (early literacy, numeracy, communication).
- Designs playful and age-appropriate learning experiences.
3. Facilitator
- Encourages children to explore, ask questions, and learn through play.
- Guides social interactions and problem-solving.
4. Observer
- Monitors children’s development, behavior, and learning progress.
- Identifies any developmental delays or special needs.
5. Communicator
- Maintains positive relationships with parents and guardians.
- Shares updates on children’s progress and behavior.
6. Role Model
- Demonstrates kindness, respect, and patience.
- Models positive social behavior.
⭐ Responsibilities of a Preschool Teacher1. Planning and Implementing Curriculum
- Prepare daily lesson plans suitable for 3–5-year-olds.
- Use creative activities (storytelling, music, art, play) to support learning.
- Align lessons with early childhood education standards.
2. Creating a Safe and Stimulating Environment
- Arrange the classroom to support learning and exploration.
- Ensure all materials are safe and age-appropriate.
- Manage routines such as arrival, meals, rest, and departure.
3. Supporting Social and Emotional Development
- Teach sharing, cooperation, and empathy.
- Help children manage emotions and resolve conflicts peacefully.
4. Facilitating Cognitive and Language Development
- Encourage curiosity, questioning, and problem-solving.
- Develop early language and communication skills through conversation, reading, and singing.
5. Encouraging Physical Development
- Plan indoor and outdoor activities to enhance fine and gross motor skills.
- Teach healthy habits (hygiene, nutrition, physical activity).
6. Observing, Assessing, and Documenting
- Keep records of children’s developmental milestones.
- Prepare progress reports.
- Identify children who may need additional support.
7. Building Relationships with Families
- Conduct parent–teacher meetings.
- Share observations and collaborate on strategies for home and school.
