Job Description

General Functions:


The Department's Prison Rape Elimination Act Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a reporting program in accordance with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003; serves as the Department's primary point of contact for all PREA issues; ensures compliance with applicable federal mandates; responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining current knowledge of all applicable standards and Department policies and procedures relating to PREA standards; monitoring PREA standards and compliance strategy.


Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief of Corrections and/or designee. Performance reviewed through reports, meetings and results achieved.


Representative Duties/Assignments
:


The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.


  • Assists in developing and maintaining PREA standards compliance files and reports; Communicates audit results to Department head and proposes solutions to address areas of compliance vulnerabilities
  • Serves as a liaison between inmates/offenders, security staff, support units and management to assist in ensuring the appropriate handling of the PREA related allegations.
  • Responsible for monitoring and interviewing inmates and staff involving PREA related incidents.
  • Reviews Inmate Management System to ensure all appropriate Alerts have been entered relating to PREA Allegations.
  • Ensures all appropriate information and documentation is posted on the Orange County website as required by the Department of Justice PREA Standards.
  • Leads Mock/Internal PREA audits and actual PREA audits and follows up with any corrective action.
  • Coordinates with the Inmate Affairs Unit and Classification section to ensure inmates who meet certain criteria are placed in the appropriate housing.
  • Interviews inmates who meet the criteria for a Case Conference and participates in all Case Conferences.
  • Assists in developing PREA training curriculum for Department staff, volunteers, contractors, and inmates. Conducts training sessions relating to all applicable standards and/or Department policies and procedures. Ensures staff members are trained on the PREA National Standards. Responsible for ensuring PREA mandates are in compliance via civilian and certified staff.
  • Examines, reviews, audits, and investigates Department records, reports, data and cases to ensure PREA mandates are followed
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Business or Public Administration, Criminal Justice or a closely related field and two years of corrections, social work, psychology, law, public administration or related field providing indirect services to the inmate population within a correctional or related facility.

Or

Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution and four years of corrections, social work, psychology, law, public administration experience.

in Lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

    Salary Information

    Pay Grade: 017 - From $29.06 to $37.76
    FLSA Status: Exempt
