Prepress Designer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Pre-Press Technician performs the day-to-day tasks in the prepress department. They are responsible for preflighting, color matching and proofing incoming art, providing press ready material to the printers in several different formats and supporting all presses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Preflight incoming artwork to ensure proper size, resolution, fonts, and color formats; save files to job folders and generate proofs or PDFs as required.
  • Prepare files for press setup including trapping, imposition, and RIP procedures.
  • Operate presses and associated software (e.g., Fiery Command WorkStation).
  • Manage workflow including version control, file archiving, and color adjustments.
  • Handle operation and maintenance of HP 570, HP 1500, and latex roll-to-roll presses.
  • Utilize Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and other design software to finalize prepress files.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and follow all safety and PPE protocols.
  • Monitor inventory of substrates, inks/toners, and request replenishments as needed.
  • Meet production targets while minimizing errors and waste.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience with RIP procedures and color management tools.
  • Working knowledge of press operation and finishing requirements.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Full-color vision and ability to work with detailed, color-sensitive materials.
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime as needed.
