Preschool Substitute Teacher - Bethel Christian School

The Preschool Substitute Teacher supports the early childhood program by providing a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered classroom environment when the regular teacher is absent. This role ensures continuity of learning and care for preschool students by implementing lesson plans, supervising activities, and maintaining classroom routines. The substitute teacher models Christian values, fosters positive relationships with students, and helps maintain a structured and engaging learning environment for young children.

Hours: 0 hours scheduled regularly. When called upon, substitute teachers are typically scheduled in half or whole day increments.

  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and spiritually rich classroom environment rooted in Christian values.
  • Supervise and care for preschool students in a safe, supportive, and Christ-centered environment.
  • Implement lesson plans and classroom activities prepared by the regular teacher.
  • Lead age-appropriate learning activities, including play-based learning, art, music, and story time.
  • Maintain classroom routines, including snack time, rest time, transitions, and outdoor play.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students at all times.
  • Manage classroom behavior using positive guidance and developmentally appropriate strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with preschool staff and administration regarding classroom needs or concerns.
  • Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements.
  • Assist with classroom organization, clean-up, and preparation of materials as needed.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like character and support the school's mission and values.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 12 ECE (Early Childhood Education) units
  • At least 50 hours of experience working with young children in a classroom, childcare, or similar setting.
  • Ability to supervise and engage preschool-aged children in a safe and nurturing manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and classroom routines effectively.
  • Must be able to pass required background checks and meet state childcare licensing requirements.
  • This position does not qualify for sponsorship of work authorization or an employment visa, so candidates must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. to be considered for this position.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job. (See attached.)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Education, skills, and experience that an ideal candidate would possess, but are not required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a preschool or early childhood education setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • A personal commitment to Christian faith and willingness to support the mission and values of the school.
