Hours: Part-Time

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Preschool Teachers affirm the identity, mission and vision of Word of Peace by planning, supervising, and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschoolers. Teachers provide a welcoming, safe, and loving environment where we accept each child as a unique individual, created and loved by God.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Curriculum Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of preschoolers. Ensure the curriculum aligns with the mission and vision of Kids of Peace Preschool and Word of Peace Lutheran Church.

· Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, orderly and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning. Establish and enforce rules and routines to promote positive behavior and discipline. Foster a sense of community and cooperation among students.

· Individualized Instruction: Identify and address the unique learning needs and abilities of each child. Provide individualized support and adaptations to ensure all children are included and engaged in the learning process.

· Parent Communication: Establish and maintain open and effective communication with parents, providing regular updates on their child's progress, development and activities. Collaborate with parents to support their involvement in their child's education and address any concerns or questions.

· Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct ongoing assessments of children's development and progress. Use observations and assessments to inform instruction, track individual growth, and identify areas for improvement. Prepare progress reports and conduct parent-teacher conferences to discuss children's development and set goals.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

· Classroom Environment: Set up and maintain an organized, clean and stimulating environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Arrange and utilize materials, resources and equipment to enhance learning opportunities.

· Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other preschool teachers and staff to plan and implement special events, programs and activities. Share ideas, resources and best practices to support a cohesive and enriching preschool experience.

· Professional Development: Stay current with research, trends and best practices in early childhood education. Attend workshops, training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

· Classroom Administration: Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments and other required documentation. Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing materials, managing supplies and maintaining inventory.

· Safety and Welfare: Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of children at all times. Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures. Provide care and assistance during mealtimes and outdoor play.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.

· Education and experience within the defining criteria for DHS Rule 3 teacher qualifications.

· Experience relevant to ages 33 months - 5+ years.

· Demonstrates personal characteristics consistent with the requirements of Kids of Peace Preschool and DHS Rule 3, including being friendly, inviting, self-motivated, even-tempered, and adaptable.

· Must pass a criminal background check.

· Supports the mission, vision and theology of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

· Supports Word of Peace's mission-based church philosophy.
