The Responsibilities of the Prescribed Fire Coordinator:
Under general supervision, works with agency personnel, forest landowners, and cooperating agencies to reduce wildfire risk by increasing the use of prescribed fire. Helps coordinate and provide training to forest landowners, land managers, and other agencies will reduce fuel levels to reduce the intensity of wildfires and increase public safety and reduce risk to firefighters. Assists with conducting prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, and disaster response.

Serves as the SCFC lead to increase the use of prescribed fire to mitigate wildfire risk and to coordinate the effective use of partner organizations to accomplish prescribed burning. Coordinates with SCFC personnel to efficiently allocate resources for agency prescribed burning to reduce wildfire risk.

Helps organize and conduct training for landowners such as "Learn to Burn" workshops with the goal of enabling them to conduct prescribed burning on their property to reduce wildfire risk. Helps CPFM graduates locate opportunities for mentoring and completion of their certification. Works with agency staff and partners to encourage the development and sustaining of prescribed burn associations and to identify and prioritize areas where prescribed fire can most effectively be used to reduce wildfire risk to communities, citizens and first responders.

Helps assess the need for prescribed burning training for SCFC personnel and takes steps to address this need.

Promotes prescribed burning as a resource management and wildfire reduction tool. Assists with conducting prescribed burns and with wildfires as needed to augment wildland fire capacity.

Participates in activities and/or projects in support of agency’s mission and performs other duties as required.
