Press Officer

We are seeking a proactive, media-savvy Press Officer to join our communications team. The successful candidate will build and maintain relationships with media, develop and execute tactical press programs that advance our organization’s priorities, and act as a reliable spokesperson resource. This role requires excellent writing and pitching skills, strong media relations experience, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a measurement-oriented approach to demonstrate impact.

Key Responsibilities - Press & Media Relations

  • Develop and execute proactive media relations plans to secure coverage across national, trade, and digital outlets that support business objectives and reinforce brand narratives.

  • Draft and distribute press materials including press releases, media advisories, executive statements, fact sheets, and Q&A documents, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and aligned messaging.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and influencers; proactively pitch story ideas and coordinate interviews, briefings, and embargoed conversations.

  • Act as a media contact, coordinate spokespeople, prepare briefing materials, and provide on-the-record and off-the-record support during media interactions and events.

  • Monitor media coverage, track trends and sentiment, and produce regular reports and insights to measure program effectiveness and inform ongoing strategy.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams—marketing, corporate communications, legal, product, and HR—to align timing, messaging, and approvals for media-facing announcements and campaigns.

  • Support rapid response and issue management by drafting holding statements, coordinating internal approvals, and implementing escalation protocols during sensitive media situations.

  • Manage relationships with external PR agencies, freelance media contacts, and vendors; develop briefs, review deliverables, and ensure alignment to strategy and budget.

  • Contribute to content creation for digital channels, press pages, executive bios, and multimedia assets to amplify earned media and support integrated communications programs.

  • Maintain media lists, contact databases, and press toolkits; ensure all materials and assets are current, accurate, and accessible for spokespeople and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications - Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on media relations or press experience in a newsroom, agency, or corporate communications environment.

  • Proven track record securing consistent media coverage across print, broadcast, and digital channels and building strong journalist relationships.

  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills with demonstrated ability to craft clear, compelling press materials and tailored pitches for varied audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management; comfortable briefing and advising executives and cross-functional partners.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and maintain attention to detail under pressure.

  • Experience using media monitoring and PR measurement tools, with a data-driven approach to reporting coverage, reach, and sentiment.

  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications - Domain & Tools

  • Experience supporting issues and crisis communications, including rapid response drafting and spokespeople coordination.

  • Familiarity with media monitoring and PR platforms (e.g., Cision, Meltwater), social listening tools, and press distribution services.

  • Background in newsroom reporting, agency account work, or sector-specific media relations with relationships in relevant beats.

  • Experience producing multimedia assets, on-camera interview support, and content for digital press channels and social amplification.
