Job purpose:

Support the Manager, for evaluating, structuring, and advancing new venture opportunities within Oman. The role leads commercial assessments of upstream oil and gas opportunities, including farm-ins, acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic investments. The position provides expert commercial insight, market intelligence, and deal structuring capabilities to support informed investment decisions and portfolio growth aligned with the OQEP strategic objectives & portfolio.


The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities


  • Support the delivery of strategic growth initiatives across functions to develop and mature new business opportunities.
  • Developing and negotiating on a new major commercial agreement such as Production Sharing Agreements, Concession Agreements, Joint Operating Agreements, Shareholder Agreements, Sales & Purchase Agreements, Farm-in and Farm-out, Joint Bidding Agreements ensuring alignment with industry standards, best practices, and practical deliverability.
  • Management of all aspects of new investment’s commercial agreements.
  • Assess contractual obligations and key commercial risks associated with major commercial agreements.
  • Support oversight of the Commercial team in managing commercial operations, commercial interfaces, and agreement compliance across OQEP’s business portfolio.
  • Represent OQEP on commercial matters at partner meetings, as delegated.
  • Participate in new asset acquisition studies by advising on economic estimation basis and assessing contractual commitments.
  • Ensure adherence to OQEP’s governance frameworks & processes for new opportunities assessment, investment approval, value assurance and reporting.
  • Provide commercial advice during transaction negotiations and agreement finalization.
  • Engage proactively with all internal and external stakeholders including joint‑venture partners and relevant governmental entities to ensure alignment, transparency, and the effective delivery of commercial objectives.
  • Reporting to Manager, Commercial Oman Ventures and working in collaboration with Commercial Manager Existing Assets ensuring OQEP’s always benefit.
  • Lead commercial due diligence activities during M&A transactions.
  • Coordinate with technical, legal, finance, and strategy teams to ensure comprehensive evaluation of opportunities.
  • Identify commercial risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Support long-term portfolio growth strategies through commercial intelligence.
  • Support the management of department resources, planning, and setting KPIs for the team.

External: MEM, MOF, IOC Counterparties, Investment Banks and brokers, Contractors, Financial Advisors, Legal Advisors

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, with some travel. Moderate to intensive computer screen use.

Education requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.

Language requirements

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and Experience :

  • 10+ years of experience in relevant / similar position.
  • Strong experience in Oil & Gas techno/ commercial agreements
  • Experience in commercial agreements negotiations
  • Well-rounded professional with strong background in Business Development, adaptable and motivated general management strategist who relishes challenges.
  • Exposure to an IOC environment would be a positive
