- This role sits within the Office of the CDIO (Chief Digital & Information Officer) in the Information Technology division and is part of a multi-year technology transformation focused on advancing American Airlines’ corporate vision and mission. Our work is anchored in driving resiliency in delivery, excellence in engineering, and modernization of our technology landscape. In this role, you will bring structure, rhythm, and clarity to how the Office of the CDIO operates—driving alignment across portfolio management, financial planning, and culture-building efforts.
- You will help activate and standardize the Chief of Staff model, enabling consistent execution, communication, and decision-making across IT VPs by defining what “good” looks like and ensuring the right tools, processes, and operating cadences are in place—supporting transparent and effective information flow across all levels of the organization.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of the portfolio management being implemented and provide related industry trends and analysis to inform strategic planning and prioritization
- Analyze and interpret portfolio management data to prepare and deliver overall portfolio review to sponsors and stakeholders
- Deliver portfolio management following Agile methods and best practices while enabling continuous planning and reducing reactive work across the organization
- Proactively identify and develop/formulate solutions for managing dependencies, mitigating risks and resolving issues at program level
- Actively drive the analysis and ultimate disposition of all change requests impacting assigned program
- Provide thought leadership, review processes and provide efficiency recommendations for all aspects of portfolio management with an eye to sustaining and/or evolving the practice at American
- Responsible for partnering with leadership to prepare and deliver reporting, portfolio metrics and presentations
- Develop and maintain pro-active and constructive relationship with stakeholders by demonstrating an understanding of the business, associated requirements and set expectations accordingly
- Collaborate with business unit leads to prioritize work based on business value
- Act as escalation point for leaders and program managers and proactively resolve any issues that will have impact to the overall portfolio health
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
- 5 years of work experience in program/project management
- 3 years of experience scaling Agile to the program level or participating on a complex program as a business lead
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- 7 years of applied work experience in program/project management
- Proven track record of managing large-scale projects across different functional workgroups
- Preferred experience with practical application of Organizational Change Management methods at a company-wide scale
- Experience working in a Chief of Staff capacity
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Proactive, organized, accurate, fast and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, planning and time management skills
- Excellent leadership skills, including negotiation, critical thinking, management of company politics, building good relationships, coaching project managers and ability to think strategically and conceptually across projects to achieve lasting bottom-line results
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills with executive presence experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (specifically Powerpoint)
- Proficient in Aha Roadmap (for portfolio and program management)
- Adaptable and able to pivot strategies when project priorities shift
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
