Principal Software Engineer

About the Job:

This role is designed for a visionary technical leader who can set long-term technical direction and act as a strategic force multiplier for engineering.

As a Principal Platform Engineer, you will define technical strategy, solve complex distributed systems challenges, and guide senior engineering talent across the organization. You will collaborate with senior technology leaders, shape engineering standards, and influence the future of NAB’s platform and developer ecosystem.

What You’ll Do

• Define and own long-term technical vision, architecture, and roadmaps for key platform domains.

• Lead architectural design of complex, cross-functional platform solutions that are secure, scalable, and cost-effective.

• Solve large-scale, ambiguous platform challenges through deep technical exploration and innovation.

• Establish engineering best practices, author design documents and RFCs, and drive engineering excellence.

• Mentor senior engineers, acting as a force multiplier for technical capability across teams.

• Collaborate with senior leaders to align platform strategy with broader business and technology goals.

What You’ll Bring

• 12+ years of software/platform engineering experience, including senior or principal-level leadership.

• Deep expertise in distributed systems design and operation at enterprise scale.

• Mastery of Kubernetes and the cloud-native ecosystem, including multi-tenant environments.

• Ability to influence technical direction across large engineering groups without direct authority.

• Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex concepts to technical and leadership audiences.

• Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate future needs and shape long-term platform strategy.

• Experience leading AI and GenAI adoption across engineering platforms.

• Strong grounding in security and risk principles for highly regulated environments.

Good to Have

• Experience building AI-driven platform capabilities.

• Contributions to open-source cloud-native or infrastructure software.

• Expertise in advanced deployment strategies and modern delivery platforms (e.g., Harness).

• Published thought leadership (talks, blogs, whitepapers) on distributed systems or platform engineering.
