Principal Sustainability Spec

Job Overview:

The Principal Sustainability Spec is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex Sustainability-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Sustainability Spec may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Sustainability. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Sustainability and Governance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures effective collaboration across Business Line Operations, Projects, Global Sustainability function, program, and strategy.
  • The Business Line Sustainability Lead is integrated with and works directly with business line leadership, operations management, and project teams to establish, promote, and drive sustainability initiatives in support of McDermott’s corporate sustainability goals and program.
  • The role has a direct reporting line to Corporate Sustainability to ensure that all sustainability activities are communicated and coordinated to align with McDermott’s corporate program, strategy and goals
  • Support Business Line management in identifying and driving initiatives to achieve sustainability objectives in alignment with McDermott’s corporate Sustainability program, goals, and strategy
  • Develop technical studies, reports, and sustainability plans incorporating GHG emissions, energy efficiency, circularity and life cycle assessments as per project requirements
  • Responsible for oversight and/ or preparation of sustainability project deliverables related to social sustainability including human rights due diligence, workers welfare management, social investment and/ or national content plan
  • Partner with corporate Sustainability in the ongoing assessment and development of processes, systems, and tools for efficient and consistent decision-making to embed Sustainability concepts and goals in operations and projects
  • Manage and continually improve the ISO 50001 certified energy management system for business line assets, ensuring compliance and performance optimization.
  • Actively review bids and proposals for emerging sustainability requirements and provide guidance to commercial, proposal, legal, operations and project teams, collaborating with corporate Sustainability
  • Contribute to the development and execution of McDermott’s decarbonization strategy for fabrication and marine assets,
  • Support the Sustainability Data Management team in ongoing measurement, tracking, analysis and continuous improvement of social and emissions data, to support reporting in accordance with applicable standards
  • Champion for and input to McDermott’s annual Sustainability Report and other corporate disclosures as required
  • Support business line management in driving area communication, awareness, and engagement around McDermott’s Sustainability strategy, activities, and goals
  • Actively participate as requested in approved industry partnerships and collaborations to support McDermott’s sustainability program and goals

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Min 8+ years, ideally within project management, fabrication/construction, and/or marine operations
  • Relevant Engineering, BA/BS
  • Strong collaboration, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Flexibility to work across time zones, occasionally outside of standard work hours
  • English fluency required
  • Experience in project management, fabrication/construction, and/or marine operations preferred
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a collaborative, globally distributed sustainability team
  • Preferred location Dubai or Doha
