Role overview
The Operations Manager will be responsible for end-to-end coordination of printing, packaging and gifting jobs, from enquiry to dispatch, ensuring accurate costing, smooth production flow, quality control, and on-time delivery to corporate clients. The role requires close coordination with sales, design, production and vendors to optimize cost, timelines and client satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for printing and packaging jobs (paper, boards, finishes, binding, inks, plates, labour, wastage, logistics etc.) and for corporate gifting proposals.
- Evaluate client briefs, suggest suitable printing processes (offset/digital/screen), materials, and packaging options, and share competitive quotes within defined timelines.
- Plan and schedule jobs with the production team to ensure optimum machine utilization, minimal rework, and adherence to delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with vendors for specialized printing, packaging and gifting requirements, negotiate rates, and ensure quality and timelines are met.
- Monitor job progress from pre-press to dispatch, resolve operational issues, and maintain high quality standards as per company norms.
- Analyse job-wise costing vs actuals, highlight variances, and suggest cost-control and process-improvement measures.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, purchase orders, work orders, delivery schedules and client approvals.
- Work closely with the sales/client servicing team to support them with costing, technical feasibility, samples, and alternative options to close deals.
- Ensure compliance with company’s environmental, safety and quality policies in day-to-day operations.
Required skills and qualifications
- Graduate, preferably with experience in printing/packaging/corporate gifting industry.
- 3–5 years of experience in operations / production / costing in a commercial printing or packaging setup, with strong understanding of paper types, printing processes, finishing, and packaging materials.
- Proven ability to do detailed job costing, rate calculations, and margin analysis using Excel or similar tools.
- Strong coordination skills to manage multiple jobs, tight deadlines, and communication between internal teams and external vendors.
- Good negotiation skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving attitude.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and familiarity with ERP/job-tracking software will be an added advantage.
