PRN Phlebotomy Technician I - Inpatient Phlebotomy - Night Shift

Basic Function: Performs phlebotomy/specimen collection, and a variety of laboratory tasks related to phlebotomy: labeling specimens, telephone inquiries, and distribution of phlebotomy supplies.

Tasks:

Performs phlebotomy draws

• Identifies patient per departmental and hospital SOPs
• Procure/collect specimen using fingerstick and/or various phlebotomy techniques, including vacutainer, syringe and butterfly
• Refers questions requiring additional knowledge to supervisor
• Completes redraws

Performs computer data entry and other clerical tasks as required

• Completes phlebotomy related data entry tasks

Orders, receives and distributes supplies

• Receives phlebotomy procurement equipment and/or supplies
• Inventories and stocks supplies as needed
• Notifies materials management before shortages occur
• Maintains phlebotomy tray with appropriate supplies

Responds to basic phlebotomy inquiries and otherwise represents assigned and related work areas

Required/Desired Qualifications:

• High school graduation or equivalent is required
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program or previous phlebotomy experience is desirable
• Minimum 6 months previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable
• Basic computer skills are desirable
• Previous experience with Personal Protective Equipment is desirable
• Previous patient contact experience is desirable

Schedule: Minimum of 24 hours/month, Night and early morning shift available, flexible start times (2200, 2300, 0000), flexible shift lengths
