The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens.

We are seeking dedicated and empathetic individuals to join our team as Probation and Parole Officer-Juvenile. This role plays a critical part in promoting public safety, reducing recidivism, and supporting the successful rehabilitation of justice-involved youth through professional supervision, guidance, and intervention strategies. This position is responsible for collaborating closely with judges, law enforcement agencies, and community-based organizations to provide services and supervision for juveniles.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR

Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.

Willingness and ability to complete the Corrections Juvenile Services-Agent Curriculum.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:


  • Coordinate supervision, services, and community resources for adjudicated and at-risk youth across a multi-parish region.
  • Conduct risk and needs assessments (including SAVRY) to guide supervision levels and intervention strategies.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with youth, families, and providers to monitor progress and update Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Serve as secondary case manager for youth in secure care, ensuring continuity of services and successful transitions.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation, including ISPs, social histories, supplemental studies, and Pre-Dispositional Investigations.
  • Facilitate placements by scheduling evaluations, compiling referral packets, and coordinating with residential and community-based programs.
  • Participate in case reviews, court proceedings, and interagency coordination; provide testimony and support compliance monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate case records and data systems, respond to emergencies, and provide mentorship/lead support to junior staff (PPO 1/2 level).

Appointment Type:
Full-time, probational

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1,2, or 3 (Juvenile), depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Compensation: These positions have a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level.
  • The Probation and Parole Officer 1 Juvenile has a SER of $1,590.40 Biweekly.
  • The Probation and Parole Officer 2 Juvenile has a SER of $1,701.60 Biweekly.
  • The Probation and Parole Officer 3 Juvenile has a SER of $2,084.80 Biweekly.

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
