Title: Process Engineer
Duties: The Process Engineer Investigates, analyzes, develops, recommends solutions and participates in the design, implementation and optimization of product manufacture including associated process control systems and equipment. Provides support to production and engineering in the technical aspect of production of formulated products 24/7. The individual is required to implement new product scale-ups, utilize statistical process control techniques to maintain and improve product quality and consistency, and ensure that manufacturing standards are compliant with ISO 9001 guidelines. The individual must identify and implement potential improvements to increase process throughput and plant cost-effectiveness. Other Key Activities include, but are not limited to:
Product Control and Optimization

Examines product batch records to monitor process and product performance.

Using various tools (SPC, HYDRA, PI), develops, implements, and maintains product controls necessary to manufacture formulated products to meet customer specifications.

Arrange for configuration of custom HYDRA batches for the disposition of non-conforming or excess material.

Provide and maintain adjustment and validity models for formulated products.

Executes safety programs as directed by the plant Safety Action Plan.

Collect and analyze technical information to advise plant management team.

Implements finished product sampling, testing, and documentation; determines corrective action for nonconforming test results.

Authorization of formulas & specifications related to formulated products.

Maintain Oracle database for all formulated products.

Supports continuous improvement for product quality as measured by metrics including: activity index and formulated product RTY.

Investigates opportunities to improve product and process performance.

Initiate and complete corrective and preventative measures for processes and products.

Implements and monitors product and process change results to determine effectiveness.

Makes recommendations for process improvement projects.

Designs and oversees appropriate DOE’s to optimize use of existing equipment and evaluate new technologies.
New Product Introduction/Product Transfer

Assesses current manufacturing capabilities for new processes and products. Recommends process modifications if needed. Provides feedback to product development teams if and why recommended methods of manufacture are considered impractical or unsafe.

Works with TSO and Sales to successfully introduce new products into production.

Obtains information from/for other plants needed to facilitate intracompany product transfers.

Provides detailed documentation of assigned process operation.

Provides 24/7 support to Production and the Lab in support of formulated products.

Provides support for the automated microadditive system.
Requirements: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related and 3 years of experience with polyester resins, including:

Polyester resin chemistry and production process

Statistical process control techniques and applications
-
Configures and maintains QuBE product control definitions

Data analysis, DOE, and regression analysis

DeltaV control systems
